Mahindra & Mahindra was founded as a steel trading company on 2 October 1945, in Ludhiana as Mahindra & Mohammed by brothers Kailash Chandra Mahindra and Jagdish Chandra Mahindra, along with Malik Ghulam Muhammad.[7] Anand Mahindra, the present Chairman of Mahindra Group, is the grandson of Jagdish Chandra Mahindra. In 1948, Ghulam Mohammed decided to move to the newly formed Pakistan.The Mahindras were left with stationary and company stamp that said M&M. They did not have the financial resources to change the name. Since there were two Mahindra brothers in the business they decided to change the company name to Mahindra & Mahindra.

Air Deccan, legally incorporated as Deccan Aviation Limited, was India's first low-cost carrier, revolutionizing the country's aviation industry by making air travel accessible to the common man. Founded by Captain G.R. Gopinath, a former Indian Army captain, the airline commenced commercial operations in August 2003 with a flight from Bengaluru to Hubli. Operating with the core philosophy that every Indian should be able to fly, Air Deccan introduced radically low fares, no-frills onboard services, and pioneered dynamic pricing in India, which allowed passengers to buy tickets for as low as one rupee through early bookings. This disruptive business model challenged legacy full-service carriers and triggered an unprecedented boom in Indian civil aviation. Established in 2020, the foundation emerged as a joint collaboration between the technology teams at Zerodha, India's largest retail stockbroker, and Frappe, the publishers of ERPNext. FOSS United serves as the spiritual and structural successor to the ERPNext Foundation, which was founded earlier in 2016. The organization was built on the realization that while India possesses one of the largest software developer bases globally, its contributions to original, globally scaled open-source codebases remained disproportionately low. To address this gap and bring back a culture of experimental hacking and tinkering, FOSS United manages community initiatives, provides financial project grants, and hosts flagship technological events like the annual IndiaFOSS conference and the FOSS Hack hackathon. Under the leadership of prominent open-source advocates like Kailash Nadh and Rushabh Mehta, the foundation supports dozens of grassroots developer communities and actively advocates for open software policies in industry, academia, and governance across India.
