Singapore Airlines Limited

Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) is the flag carrier airline of Singapore, recognized globally as one of the world's leading premium aviation brands. Operating out of its primary hub at Singapore Changi Airport, the airline is renowned for its high standards of customer service, safety, and luxurious passenger experience. The airline's history traces back to May 1947 when it operated its first flight under Malayan Airways. Following the separation of Singapore from Malaysia, the company split in 1972, leading to the creation of Singapore Airlines. Fully backed by the government of Singapore through its investment arm, Temasek Holdings, the airline pioneered several customer-focused aviation milestones, including the introduction of free drinks, choice of meals, and hot towels in economy class during the 1970s. Over the decades, Singapore Airlines has grown into a vast international group encompassing the low-cost carrier subsidiary Scoot, and the regional carrier SilkAir, which fully merged into the main SIA brand in 2021. As a member of the Star Alliance network, the company serves an extensive global grid spanning over 30 countries. Despite modern economic headwinds and the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline staged a remarkable recovery, hitting record revenues of 20.5 billion Singapore dollars by 2026 under the steady stewardship of long-time CEO Goh Choon Phong.

Deccan Aviation Limited

Air Deccan, legally incorporated as Deccan Aviation Limited, was India's first low-cost carrier, revolutionizing the country's aviation industry by making air travel accessible to the common man. Founded by Captain G.R. Gopinath, a former Indian Army captain, the airline commenced commercial operations in August 2003 with a flight from Bengaluru to Hubli. Operating with the core philosophy that every Indian should be able to fly, Air Deccan introduced radically low fares, no-frills onboard services, and pioneered dynamic pricing in India, which allowed passengers to buy tickets for as low as one rupee through early bookings. This disruptive business model challenged legacy full-service carriers and triggered an unprecedented boom in Indian civil aviation. The airline utilized a mixed fleet of ATR 42, ATR 72, and Airbus A320 aircraft to connect major hubs with tier-2 and tier-3 Indian cities that lacked previous air connectivity. Despite rapid growth and capturing significant market share, intensive price wars and rising fuel costs created immense financial strain. In 2007, liquor baron Vijay Mallya's UB Group acquired a controlling stake in the airline, eventually merging it into Kingfisher Airlines as 'Kingfisher Red' before grounding the brand completely. Although Captain Gopinath attempted a brief regional reboot of the brand under the UDAN scheme in 2017, the airline permanently suspended all its regional aviation operations in late 2020.

FOSS United Foundation

FOSS United Foundation is an Indian non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, strengthening, and fostering the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) ecosystem in India. Established in 2020, the foundation emerged as a joint collaboration between the technology teams at Zerodha, India's largest retail stockbroker, and Frappe, the publishers of ERPNext. FOSS United serves as the spiritual and structural successor to the ERPNext Foundation, which was founded earlier in 2016. The organization was built on the realization that while India possesses one of the largest software developer bases globally, its contributions to original, globally scaled open-source codebases remained disproportionately low. To address this gap and bring back a culture of experimental hacking and tinkering, FOSS United manages community initiatives, provides financial project grants, and hosts flagship technological events like the annual IndiaFOSS conference and the FOSS Hack hackathon. Under the leadership of prominent open-source advocates like Kailash Nadh and Rushabh Mehta, the foundation supports dozens of grassroots developer communities and actively advocates for open software policies in industry, academia, and governance across India.
